On Sunday (Dec 22), the Babylon Bee posted a satirical article titled, "Candace Owens Horrified To Learn Christmas Was Started By Birth Of A Jew."
The article is built from the premise that Candace Owens is an antisemite and hates Jews, and therefore her finding out that Jesus was Jewish would be shocking.
In the Babylon Bee article, she discovers this fact and because it's "Jewish" she tears down her Christmas decorations and lights her nativity scene on fire before declaring that the whole this is a "Jewish plot." That's the joke.
Unfortunately, not many people found it funny. The post on 𝕏 got over 3.2 million views, it went viral, most of the comments, though, were critical of the Babylon Bee.
One top comment reads, "If jesus was jewish, why didn’t he fake a holocaust?" Another says, "The Babylonian Talmud Bee" and "The Israel Bee." Many comments were also asking, "who killed Jesus?"
The Babylon Bee has a history of mocking Christians, many of their articles make fun of the church and some of the beliefs. While on the other hand, they are silent or soft handed when it comes to criticising Israeli or Jewish behaviour.
For example, 160 kids were just rescued from an Orthodox Jewish compound in Guatemala where they were allegedly being abused by Jews. You won't hear The Babylon Bee write any jokes about that, though.
Some people suggest the overt criticism towards Christians is because the CEO of Babylon Bee, Seth Dillon, is Jewish, and so is the managing editor. That's why there's preference for a certain group of people, and why they continue to take shots at Candace Owens, who's been outwardly vocal against Israel.
Kyle Mann, the Editor-in-chief of the Babylon Bee, has been active on 𝕏 defending the 'joke' by 'explaining' it to critics. Here's what he writes (multiple times): "The joke is that candace Owens was horrified to learn christmas was started by the birth of a jew. Do you get it now?"
Owens responded to this post by Kyle Mann saying, "Everyone is just starting to see the agenda behind your 'jokes'."
The premise is obvious, it's that the writers believe Candace Owens is an antisemite, but they don't have the backbone to acknowledge what they are implying and instead hide behind their punchline.
The joke is not funny because it comes from a place of hatred. The writers clearly don't like Candace and want to portray her negatively, and that gets in the way of anything funny. You have to buy into their delusions and normie blindfold ideology to agree with the premise.
And this was part of the response that Candace Owens had, she said, "Jokes usually aren’t funny when they come from an obvious place of resentment." She went on to compare the Babylon Bee to SNL.
"It’s how Saturday Night Live, which used to be legitimately hysterical, became unwatchable. They began to resent more than half of America, and they couldn’t hide their disgust— even though they tried to wrap it in “humor”.
Candace also criticised Babylon Bee for their attacks against Christians, "Are we required to think the Babylon Bee is funny when they take so many shots at Christians and mock Mary and then go “it’s just a joke!”."
Seth Dillion the CEO, as had a vague response to the online drama with Candace, basically saying that it's all satirical and freedom is great because it allows us to say silly things. Again, they don't have the backbone to even stand behind any opinion.
Avi Yemini, an Israeli commentator, replied to Seth Dillion's post, writing, "The best jokes make Candace Owens cry." Lots of interesting characters crawling out of the woodwork for this one.
