In the days following the election, numerous celebrities have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the outcome, with some celebrating while many others express disappointment.
As the conversation unfolds, a few well-known figures might need to prepare for a move abroad if they intend to follow through on past remarks about Trump.
This is a look at the celebrities who have previously voiced their intentions to live outside the U.S. rather than experience another term under Trump’s presidency.
Eva Longoria
Actor Eva Longoria has officially left America following President Trump's landslide victory. And we have to respect the fact that she actually left — unlike the other celebs on this list. She told Marie Claire she plans to split her time between Spain and Mexico, calling America a "dystopian" country. But her complaints weren't really the fault of Trump, but with Democrat run Los Angeles.
“I had my whole adult life here,” Longoria told the Marie Claire, referencing Los Angeles. “But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to shit on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
Alec Baldwin
The actor notoriously known for shooting a woman in the neck, Alec Baldwin, reportedly said he'd move from America if Donald Trump became president. It's still not clear if Baldwin will migrate, but it's clear that he is not entirely happy with the outcome. Following the 2024 result, Baldwin posted a black screen on Instagram without a caption.
Whoopi Goldberg
"The View" host Whoopi Goldberg, another celebrity who threatened to leave, was also distraught following the result. On the Nov. 6 episode of the ABC talk show "The View" Whoopi was on the verge of tears, questioning where democrats went wrong.
John Legend
In a 2020 interview with Cosmopolitan, musician John Legend said that he and his wife Krissy Teigen had considered leaving America following a Trump victory. "We were born and raised here, all of our families are here." The singer told Cosmopolitan. "It would be hard to leave. But I don’t know what one’s supposed to do when you have a leader who is trying to destroy democracy."
Krissy Teigen
Krissy Teigen, the wife of singer John Legend, has also considered leaving America following a Trump victory as mentioned above. Teigen was one of the many outspoken celebrities to endorse Kamala Harris particularly for her stance on the issue of reproductive rights (abortion).
Rob Reiner
Known for being an all round nuisance on X, Rob Reiner is another high profile personality who reportedly threatened to leave America. Interestingly, users on X are more concerned about the actor's intention to "set himself on fire" which he had reportedly stated.
Barbra Streisand
We are not quite sure who Barbra Streisand is, but she is another celebrity named. According to herself, she plans to migrate to England. In an interview with Stephen Colbert, Streisand said, "I will move. I can't live in this country if he [Trump] became president." See the full interview below.
Cher
Cher told the Guardian that she suffered health issues as result of Trump's first term, and was determined to avoid living under his leadership again. "If he were to be elected, I'm moving to Jupiter," she tweeted.
Funnily enough, online commentators have forced Cher to issue a statement. An insider who spoke with the DailyMail.com had this to say (speaking on behalf of Cher): "She [Cher] did intend to leave the United States if Donald Trump got elected, but things are different now than they were one year ago. She gave that interview before she was so committed."
Nancy Pelosi
According to some sources, Former speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi, has also considered moving from America and back to hell.
Hillary Clinton
Unsuccessful presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, has also been named in the list of high profile people threatening to leave.
Megan Rapinoe
Famous lesbian soccer player, Megan Rapinoe, is also packing her bags but this comes as no surprise, since she has been threatening to move for years following public backlash from her political activism, predominately kneeling during the national anthem and being an advocate for the inclusion of transgender women in women’s sports.
Tom Hanks
There have also been unsubstantiated reports on X that actor Tom Hanks plans to flee the country. Users have speculated that Trump's intention to make the Epstein client list public has scared off the the Oscar-winning actor. But these reports are unfounded and Tom Hanks has not made any such claims.
Amy Schumer
Back in 2016, comedian Amy Schumer stated she'd move to London if Donald Trump was elected president. She later walked back her claims suggesting it was only a "joke." The joke defence is a strong defence. Schumer said in the caption of an Instagram post: "The interview where I said I would move was in London and was said in jest.” While Schumer made these claims back in 2016, the internet has not forgotten.
Bono
Bono reportedly said he would drive his car off a cliff if Donald Trump won the US election. Many online users have been teasing the international superstar including Joel Fischer and George Galloway. We hope that Bono doesn't not follow through with his promises.
Here are all the other celebrities and politicians that have reportedly threatened to move:
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Jane Fonda, Madonna, Mark Ruffalo, Kim Kardashian, Bill Gates, George Clooney, Hunter Biden, Oprah, Robert De Niro, Samuel Jackson, Miley Cyrus, Travis Kelce, Bobbi Althoff, Rashida Tlaib, Anthony Fauci, George Soros, Diddy, Eminem, Ellen, Sean Penn, Sharron Stone, Ashley Judd, Tommy Lee, Bryan Cranston, Billy Joe armstrong, Pink, Stephen King, Ben Stiller, Steven Spielberg.
