Micheal Ian Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Lemon and Joy Reid are a few of the top celebs who have announced they are leaving 𝕏. We have finally been unburdened by what has been...
This comes just days after a historic Republican election victory which landed Donald J. Trump comfortably in the Oval Office and in charge of all three branches of government.
After a week of liberals melting down and threatening to leave the United States, celebs have finally taken some serious action, this time quitting 𝕏. Let's take a look at some of the big accounts that have quit 𝕏 and people's reaction to this shocking turn of events.
Michael Ian Black
Comedian Michael Ian Black has decided to leave 𝕏 – or is at least thinking about it. Black, known for changing his last name, took to the popular social media site on Wednesday saying, "Pretty sure I'm leaving Twitter. I'll continue monitoring this account, but it sucks here."
His thoughtful post did not garner sympathy from 𝕏 users, instead people were quick to mock the comedian. One user wrote "This isn't an airport bro. No need to announce your departure." and another commenter wrote, "You are right. Twitter will be better without you." We will be closely monitoring the situation and update as soon as Mr Schwartz officially exits.
Jamie Lee Curtis
The Freaky Friday actress took to Instagram on Wednesday (Nov 13) posting a screenshot of her deactivated 𝕏 account and wrote:
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.”
She is quoting the Serenity Prayer, a widely recited prayer which was popularised by Alcoholics Anonymous and written by the theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. Interestingly, Curtis does not align herself with Christian values but those of her Jewish heritage.
Don Lemon
Former CNN anchor, Don Lemon, took his exit one step further, posting a full statement on his account explaining his reasoning, you can read that below. As you might expect, the feedback was less than supportive. Influencer, Dan Bilzerian, ratio'd Lemon with one comment, "Nobody cares." Many users were quick to post memes and to express their indifferent to his departure. "Oh, you were still here?" wrote Ian Carroll.
Joy Reid
MSNBC's Joy Reid has also departed from 𝕏, deactivating her account Thursday morning (Nov 14). To her fans, she wrote, "This isn't Twitter anymore... No, this site is KKK. This site is MAGA country." She goes on to explain that she has to live in constant fear of "violent threats" that are "encouraged" by Elon Musk.
CCDH
The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) is a far-left online watchdog form the United Kingdom that monitors hate speech, predominantly "fighting" antisemitism and anti-vax information. Thee CCDH has said they are leaving due to the new TOS, which moves court cases against 𝕏 to Texas. Many users on 𝕏 are applauding the exit and see it as a win for free speech.
The Guardian
While The Guardian is not technically leaving 𝕏, they have released a statement suggesting that they will no longer be posting on the social media. You can read their statement below. Visegrad 24, another news outlet, responded to their departure saying, "Scared of 𝕏 community notes?" And popular cartoonist, Stonetoss Comics commented, "if you own the libs hard enough, they deplatform themselves."
Right-wing commentators have been following the departures, here's what some accounts had to say:
"The trash is finally taking itself out" – @libsoftiktok
"Conservatives now looking at Rob Reiner and Stephen King." – Tim Young
"Joy Ann Reid has fled Twitter." – Michael Malice
