Over the past few years, MAGA became the ‘big tent’ party. Former Democrat voters like RFK Jr., Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard, and Joe Rogan joined forces to help Donald Trump defeat Kamala Harris.
The positive side of this is that Trump won by a landslide, pronouns became cringe and cancel culture is on its last breath. The MAGA movement may have won the culture war, but at what cost?
Conservatives have traditionally aimed to ‘conserve’ important traditions and values stemming from Christianity. They have led the charge against same-sex marriage, pornography, abortion, and feminism. Serious conservatives understand that the traditional family is the foundation of society and without proper sexual ethics, Americans will fail to reproduce, families will break apart, and Western Civilization will decline.
However, it’s difficult to be consistent with these views when we allow radical feminists, practicing homosexuals and pro-choice advocates to be the face of the movement.
Even more so, when we have drag queens, feminists and transvestites running around, declaring that they are the true heirs to the MAGA movement. When we have MAGA porn stars offering ‘free services’ to L.A. firefighters, Christian wives posing in bikinis for a pin-up calendar and ‘conservative transgenders’ debating 'liberal transgenders' on YouTube shows, it may be time to take a step back and figure out what it is that we still stand for.
Here are five issues that the conservative movement capitulated to the left on, in no particular order:
1. Abortion
About 50 days before the election, Melania Trump made headlines for coming out supporting abortion 'rights' in her memoir, saying, "A woman's fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes." Even after receiving some pushback from pro-lifers, and praise from the left, she doubled down on the position on Fox News, as well as in a video posted to her social media feed. It can be assumed that this stance was a strategic one approved by her husband to win over more moderates who are single-issue voters on abortion.
President Trump may regularly brag about protecting life by appointing the Supreme Court Justices who overturned Roe v. Wade. Still, he is known for toeing the line on the issue, especially in the months leading up to the election. Although Trump has been clear that he is 'personally pro-life' but takes a federalist approach of leaving abortion laws up to states, he faced pushback for pumping out pro-abortion rhetoric that sounded no different from the messaging of the Kamala Harris campaign.
It's highly unlikely that these statements brought any radical pro-abortion activists over to the MAGA tent, but what they did do was turn away passionate pro-lifers and help normalize dehumanizing rhetoric about the unborn. Sadly, when traditional conservatives expressed their disappointment in these statements, they were told to keep quiet to secure the election.
2. Homosexuality
Support for same-sex marriage has been on a decline lately, the support from young Americans has dropped by 8% since 2018. Despite this, the conservative movement as a whole has all but dropped the issue, allowing the traditional definition of marriage to be perverted by not only the left, but now the right as well. Here's a video of Vivek Ramaswamy defending same-sex marriage to a cheering crowd of Republicans:
While conservatives in the past fought against the legalization of same-sex marriage and fought alongside Christians being forced to bake wedding cakes or perform marriage ceremonies for homosexuals, now, they have all but abandoned the cause. Faces of the movement congratulate commentator Dave Rubin for renting out the wombs of women and stripping their babies away in an attempt to replicate a twisted version of the family unit with his partner. When Rubin announced this in a now-deleted 𝕏 post, Libs of TikTok, TheBlaze, Megyn Kelly and many others replied with words of support and congratulations.
While many conservatives still likely oppose homosexuality behind closed doors, they keep quiet for fear of being called divisive or homophobic by their 'fellow Republicans.' Many homosexual Republicans now refer to themselves as the 'normal gays' and liberals who joined the party in protest of radical gender ideology see continued support of the 'LGB' as a win.
3. Feminism
Another group that moved over to the 'right' side of the aisle in reaction to gender ideology was the trans-exclusionary radical feminists, or 'TERFS.' JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter book series, has been applauded by conservatives for standing up for female-only spaces. However, her opposition to transgenderism is rooted in Marxist 'resistance to the patriarchy' and not the belief that men and women are ontologically different and should therefore have different roles in society and segregated spaces.
Even Republican congresswomen are often proponents of the 'girlboss' lifestyle, with Nancy Mace as a key example. Mace regularly boasts about how she proved herself as a woman by invading male spaces and playing male roles, all the while complaining about men in women's spaces.
A leading voice against transgender ideology, Matt Walsh, correctly pointed out that radical gender ideology wouldn't have been made possible without the feminism that TERFs promote. Both movements deny the inherent differences between men and women, with the natural conclusion being that there is no difference in the roles they have to play in society, the effects of which have been devastating.
4. Pornography
Some may remember when back in 2023, Prager U founder Dennis Prager downplayed the sinful nature and negative societal effects of pornography, claiming, "Men want variety," and that if viewing pornography is a "substitute for adultery, it's not awful."
Not long after this, a company called Conservative Dad's Ultra Right Beer released a calendar featuring pictures of scantily clad MAGA women, many of them wives, mothers, and professing Christians. Anti-trans activist Riley Gaines posed seductively on the cover, wearing a tiny bathing suit, and Ashley St. Clair was pictured with her legs up in a bubble bath. While St. Clair says that she is 'not a conservative', she has embedded herself within the MAGA movement.
This sparked a huge debate in conservative circles, with many calling the calendar 'soft pornography' and questioning why so many women were posing almost naked for married men to lust after them. Newer members of the right excused this behavior, calling any critics 'divisive' and claiming that there is 'nothing sexual about a bikini.'
Similar sentiments were expressed from the lib right when congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna posed in a tiny MAGA bathing suit for the cameras. When conservatives called this behavior unprofessional, many female influencers such as Isabella DeLuca tried to 'express support' for Luna, an excuse for posting their own immodest swimsuit photos to the delight of the thousands of MAGA boomers lusting after them in the replies. It should be no surprise that after behaviour like this resulted in little backlash, 'MAGA pornstars' have felt empowered to market degenerate content to conservatives in name only who will consume anything as long as it's branded as 'MAGA' or wearing a red hat.
5. Transgenderism
Transgenderism is probably the hottest social issue of the last four years, with people from all over the political spectrum joining forces with MAGA to defeat radical gender ideology. However, it seems that the more libertarians that identify with the right side of the aisle, the more the conversation about what opposing transgenderism means shifts to the left.
In the past, most conservatives viewed transgenders as sexual degenerates whose cross-dressing behavior should not be accepted or normalized by polite society. Transgenderism was viewed as a moral failure, and often as a symptom of deeply rooted sexual perversion. As time went on, gender ideology was promoted to children through media and public education, and the battle morphed into one primarily about protecting children.
Although protecting children from mutilation and dangerous hormone treatments is an important cause, conservatives need to reject transgenderism in all forms. It's not enough to say that minors shouldn't receive these treatments, there is nothing moral or healthy about doctors mutilating the genitals of adults, either.
In addition to this, propping up 'trans conservatives' such as Blaire White or Caitlyn Jenner to fight for the cause helps to normalize what should never be made normal: men rejecting their God-given gender roles by dressing up as perverse caricatures of women. There is nothing 'conservative' about inverting nature in this way, in fact, the very phrase 'trans conservative' is an oxymoron.
