The second inauguration of President Donald Trump was an event packed with hilarious and memorable moments.
Mark Zuckerberg was caught looking down the shirt of Lauren Sanchez, Trump forgot to place his hand on the Bible while taking his oath, and Elon Musk gave a roman salute to a stadium full of Trump supporters.
In a speech celebrating the inauguration of Donald Trump, Elon Musk thanked the supporters for "making it happen" and then performed a gesture which looked like the Roman salute. The Roman salute is also the salute used by Nazis and Hitler.
So now, Leftist are losing their minds screaming about Nazis and fascism, while conservatives are playing defense and outright refusing to acknowledge the salute.
Some media outlets like the BBC have even contacted Nazi "historians" to get their opinion on Elon's gesture. Of course, they all definitively say that, yes, the gesture was a "seig heil," or Nazi salute.
Mike Stuchbery, another person who claims to have studied Nazis, says, "I studied the Nazis at university, taught the history of Nazi Germany on two continents and wrote for major newspapers about Nazi Germany [...] That was a Nazi salute."
Conservatives like Dinesh D'Souza are pointing to Democrat politicians who have made similar gestures. "These Nazi salutes are just fine by our highly flexible "historian of fascism,"" says D'Souza. The argument seems to be: why is it only okay when Democrats do the Nazi salute?
Bridget Phetasy, another conservative commentator, had this to say, "I don't want to hear a fucking thing about a "Nazi salute" from the people who spent the past year cheering for Hamas." She seems to be comparing people who support Hamas with Nazis. Interestingly, people that support Palestine compare Israelis with Nazis too. Is everyone a Nazi?
Elon Musk has responded to people claiming he did a Nazi salute, "frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The “everyone is Hitler” attack is sooo tired."
Surprisingly, the ADL, which usually jumps at any opportunity to accuse people of being anti-Semitic, has defended Elon Musk. They say he made "an awkward gesture" and that it was "not a Nazi salute."
Aside from the ADL, Jews from around the world have shown support for Musk, and don't regard his gesture as offensive at all. Ben Shapiro posted a picture of Musk and himself at Auschwitz with the caption, "You stupid f***ing idiots." Avi Yemini also weighed in posting a picture of Musk with a small Jewish hat on his head – more proof that he is not a Nazi.
So, did Elon Musk do a Roman salute? Yes. Yes, he did. He put his right hand to his chest, then extended it straight out with his palm open. Why is this so hard for conservatives to admit?
The real question is, did he intend to do the salute, or was it something that happened accidentally?
It almost certainly was accidental. A person can mimic a rude or controversial gesture without being fully aware that you are doing it.
Do leftists really think Elon Musk is going around Nazi saluting boomer Trump supporters? Not only would that be politically disastrous, but the MAGA base, who are pro-Israel and avid supporters of Judaism, would find it appalling.
