Video released Thursday shed light on the moments leading up to an Indiana sheriff’s deputy shooting and killing J6 defendant Matthew Huttle, who had recently received a pardon from President Donald Trump.

Body cam footage from a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office deputy shows Huttle being pulled over for speeding 70 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, and admitted to having “pending traffic violations” in the state.

After Huttle was identified as a Habitual Traffic Violator, he was asked to step out of the vehicle and informed that he would be booked since the infraction was a felony.

“So today, you were getting off with a verbal warning for the speed, however you’re a Habitual Traffic Violator which means that you are at a felony status for driving while suspended so today you are going to come with me,” the officer told Huttle, who argued, “I can’t,” in protest.

“I can’t go to jail for this, sir,” Huttle said.

“Can I get a ride?” he asked, to which the officer replied “No.”

“Are you sure? I’ll violate my…” Huttle responded.

“Just listen to, me, okay,” the officer told Huttle. “Number one, it’s a felony offense. There’s no there’s no leeway with felonies in the state of Indiana. Now maybe if it was a misdemeanor offense I could work something out with you, but it’s not a misdemeanor, it’s a felony offense. Okay? So that’s why I can’t work with you today.”

“I understand your circumstances, but you understand that you can’t drive, okay? So, you’re driving has resulted into this situation.”

As the officer begins to make the arrest, Huttle runs back inside his vehicle, prompting the officer to chase him, shouting, “No, don’t you do it, buddy.”

“I’m shooting myself,” Huttle appears to say as a struggle ensued.

At this point the officer shouted, “No!” jumped back, drew his weapon and fired multiple shots killing the man.

Police reportedly found a loaded 9mm pistol in Huttle’s vehicle.

The footage comes as prosecutors on Thursday ruled the officer’s shooting of Huttle was justified, agreeing with the deputy’s split-second assessment the J6-er posed a deadly threat.

“Based on the evidence, prosecutors say the deputy was legally justified in using deadly force to defend himself because Huttle posed as an imminent threat to their safety,” reported WNDU.com.

Huttle served six months in prison and was released on July 17, 2024. His uncle Dale also went to jail for J6 charges and was released on Jan. 20, 2025. Both received presidential pardons.
