After a woman was doxxed and threatened for a joke posted on social media, she has now lost her job.
A woman, who goes by the handle @hannaahhn (Han) on 𝕏, posted yesterday explaining how she lost her job as a waitress because of a post she made on the platform. Han writes, "I have been fired from my job because of the joke I tweeted on here [...] insane that a couple of seriously insecure people can actually take your job from you..."
According to Han, she was doxxed after she posted the joke, and her family was also harassed. Since she has posted a number of pictures of herself, which include her face, it was relatively easy for angry users on social media to find out her identity.
Amidst the heated H-1B debate that raged on 𝕏 during the Christmas holidays, Han made a joke about Indian Uber drivers. The joke was posted alongside two photos, one of Han smiling and one of her frowning, the joke read, "when the uber says its [on the way] [versus] when it says it's an Indian male driver."
Before the post was deleted, it was viewed over 9.4M times. Indians, of course, didn't take well to the joke and did what they tend to do best, threaten and harass white women.
Some people have critiqued Han for allegedly apologizing for the joke after deleting it. According to Han, this is untrue. "I never apologized," she wrote, "I stand with what I said 100%, I had to delete it because they were harassing my mother."
Thankfully, the internet is rallying to support Han. "Elon said that he would pay the lawyer fees for anyone this happened to," one comment said. Leonarda Jonie weighed in, writing, "Lean into the racism. Spread the hate."
Many people were actually confused as to why this was even considered a 'controversial' joke. "Why did people get mad at this?" Posted Sarah Stock. "Indian men were about 5x more likely than other ethnicities to sexually harass me & my friends, so it’s a reasonable concern!"
There have been countless comments and posts over the last couple of weeks that have exposed this type of behavior from South Asian men.
The right-wing media has no problem pointing out Islamic behavior in the West, which is bad, too. But why is it so controversial to point out similar behavior among foreigners of Indian descent? Is it racist to point out a pattern of behavior from another race or culture? Should governments only acknowledge the behavior after thousands of children have been raped?
